Satin vs. Suede vs. Knit: Choosing a Custom Kippah

The first decision in any custom kippah order isn’t the imprint — it’s the material. Satin, suede, and knit each suit a different occasion, budget, and look. Here’s how they compare so you order the right one.

Satin

The classic event kippah. Smooth, lightweight, and the most affordable at scale, satin takes a gold or silver foil imprint cleanly inside the lining. It’s the standard choice for weddings and b’nai mitzvah where you’re ordering in volume and want a polished favor without a premium price.

Suede

A soft, matte finish in deep, rich colors that feels like a keepsake rather than a giveaway. Suede holds both foil imprinting and embroidery well, so it’s popular for the family’s own kippahs and for higher-end events. It costs a little more per piece but reads noticeably more premium.

Knit & crochet (srugah)

Custom-knit kippahs with woven patterns, borders, and names knitted right in. These are everyday wear — durable, breathable, and personal — which makes them the choice for camps, schools, and congregations rather than one-time event favors. Lead times run a bit longer because each one is made stitch by stitch.

Choosing for your order

If you’re ordering hundreds for an event, satin gives the best look-per-dollar. If it’s a smaller, premium occasion, suede is worth the step up. For daily wear, go knit. Not sure? We’ll send a free mockup on whichever material you’re leaning toward so you can compare before you commit.

Key takeaway

Satin wins on price for big events, suede feels premium for smaller runs, and knit is for everyday wear — pick by occasion first, then color and imprint.
